Case study: Working hand in hand for a better world

The best kinds of projects are those which are close to your heart.

Through a referral from my colleague Megan, I had the chance to work with NGO Hand in Hand International. The organisation supports women from third world countries to succeed as entrepreneurs and lift themselves and their families out of poverty. They do this by providing resources and guidance, creating jobs and educating the people to shift their mindset on what women can do.

The what and why

As a first step, Jen from Hand in Hand International and I got together on a call to discuss the essence of the charity and what it is they wanted from a German website. It was super interesting to hear about the amazing work they do for women and communities in third world countries. To spread awareness in Germany and receive funding, they needed a website to showcase the work they have done and are still planning on doing. In the end, we decided to create a simplified, localised website to match the business’s budget whilst still making sure it was informative.

The how

Together with her German colleague Eva, Jen provided a great document with the English copy as well as reference materials about tone of voice and similar organisations. Taking this into account, I wrote German copy which uses a register fitting for the charity sector, appeals to the target audience emotionally and conveys statistics and facts accurately.

“Following a recommendation, we asked Lisa to write the copy for our German language charity website. Lisa took the brief on board, got our tone of voice exactly right and picked up on the little details we might have missed, so the terminology was spot on throughout.

Added bonus: Lisa is lovely to work with, delivered the copy well ahead of time, and was super passionate about the charity’s work. Thank you, Lisa!”
